FARMYNG

Production of proteins from insects for animal nutrition and fertilizers. The objective is to develop a large-scale, first-of-its-kind bio-based value chain producing sustainable, safe, and premium feed products from an innovative origin: the Tenebrio molitor insect (mealworm). Waste will be recovered to use as soil fertilizers.

Farmÿng is a consortium made up of 20 companies from eight countries. Familia Torres is participating in the project to study the viability of the fertilizers, which would have a lower carbon footprint than conventional fertilizers since they are a by-product.

Project developed in the framework of Horizon 2020 Public-Private Partnership Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking (topic BBI.2018.F2 – Large-scale production of proteins for food and feed applications from alternative, sustainable sources).

ATENEAA

Application of insect protein (Tenebrrio Molitor) for animal feed and frass for organic farming.

The project aims to achieve 3 objectives: develop and optimize methods of processing the larvae of Tenebrrio molitor, expand knowledge about its nutritional potential in pigs and other benefits, depending on its scope of application and to assess the organic excreta of bred insects. The organic waste generated in the breeding of insects is far superior to the animal biomass itself.
